Job Description
Cory is one of the UK’s leading waste management and recycling companies. We operate one of the largest energy from waste facilities in the United Kingdom, with a unique river-based infrastructure on the Thames for delivering waste.
As part of Cory’s £900million investment in the future of the business, we are undergoing a significant programme of works to modernise and update our Barking Transfer Station, which will provide additional capacity for handling and transporting waste destined for Riverside 2, which is currently under construction in Belvedere.
We are currently recruiting for a Night Transfer Station Operative at Barking. The holder of this role will provide an important function that directly contributes to the daily working and smooth running of the Transfer Station through various operational duties and responsibilities.
Key Elements of the Role
- To be part of a team operating (and being responsible for the safe operations of) the plant and equipment
- To carry out daily safety and maintenance checks.
- To assist vehicles delivering waste in order to keep queuing of waste delivery vehicles to a minimum.
- To control as far as possible odour, dust, noise, and litter within the transfer station and to ensure all parts of the transfer station are kept in a clean and tidy condition.
- To take care for the health & safety of themselves and of other persons who may be affected by the individuals acts and/or responsibilities.
The above is a summary of the main tasks and responsibilities. Further tasks and responsibilities may be required depending on the demands of the business. The process may require flexible working as business needs arise.
Shift Pattern:
- Monday-Friday 19:00 to 05:30
- Overtime is available, but is not guaranteed
Job requirements
The individual we are looking for will be able to demonstrate the following knowledge, skills, and experience:
- Previous experience of working at a Transfer Station would be an advantage but is not essential
- Ability to operate mobile plant equipment, specifically loading shovels and 360 material handlers
- Willing to work weekends if required
- Willing to work shifts
- Good communication skills
- Flexible approach
