This is a crucial role within the Engineering Leadership team that will require working non 9 – 5 hours. The Technical Superintendent will support the 24/7 engineering operation from the Head Office in London with regular travel to dry dock and occasional travel to key suppliers and shipyards.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  1. Technical line management for a team of Engineers supported by sub-contractors to maximize engineering productivity for planned and unplanned engineering tasks in support of vessel operational demands.
  2. Prioritize fleet defects raised and delegate tasks ensuring engineering governance in the reporting and closure of engineering tasks, consistent with company reporting structure and safety management system.
  3. Ensure the root cause of vessel defects is investigated thoroughly with the implementation of long term solutions reported consistent with company structure and safety management system.
  4. A number of vessels and projects as allocated by the HOD.
  5. Manage and monitor maintenance activities ensuring all maintenance is completed in line with the agreed plan and is correctly recorded on Centrik.
  6. Provide technical support to assist with dry dock scheduling, fleet enhancements and upgrades, docking specifications and reporting.
  7. Responsible for managing and maintaining contractor relationships as allocated by HOD.

MAIN ACTIVITIES

  • Maintain vessel readiness and performance in support of operational demands.
  • Ensure that your teams and you comply with all Health and Safety regulations and safe working practice as required by current legislation and the Company’s Health and Safety Policy and practices.
  • Provide technical input to the development of specification and oversight of refits, enhancements and upgrades and the construction of new build vessels.
  • Direct supervision of the internal engineering team through the Senior Engineers.
  • Liaise with external suppliers and internal resource to ensure the rectification of vessel defects.
  • Work with Engineering Production Controller to ensure your teams deliver the agreed daily plan, and where not possible this is understood and fed back as to reasons why.
  • Work alongside the Engineering Production Controller and Dry-dock Manager to ensure annual, intermediate and renewal dry-dockings are planned and scoped with appropriate resource to time, quality and cost.
  • Provide technical support and oversight of vessels during dry-docking inputs.
  • Ensure all work packages are completed iaw procedures in place.
  • Work with Engineering Technical Engineer/Analyst to identify trends in vessel defects and implement long-term solutions to enhance fleet reliability.
  • Internally manage hull and machinery insurance claims from incident through to invoicing.
  • Perform periodic reviews of vessel calendar and hours based maintenance schedules to identify opportunities to increase productivity and operational cost savings.
  • Provide and promote the highest level of customer service.
  • Continuously seek ways to improve personal, team and business performance.
  • Ensure that all relevant information is communicated speedily and accurately in a way that ensures that the information is received and easily understood.
  • Ensure that all materials and resources are effectively and efficiently utilized to minimize waste and reduce costs.
  • Undertake any other relevant duties or reasonable request as requested by the HOD and any member of the senior management team.

KEY SKILLS:

Essential

  • Practical engineer with technical vessel management experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with management of Statutory and Classification requirements.
  • Experience in high speed vessel propulsion systems.
  • A strong track record in building good working relationships across diverse business areas and functions.
  • Have a proven ability to work effectively as part of a team and to establish good professional relationships with colleagues.
  • Desire to continuously improve current company working practices.
  • Strong influential skills to enhance a safety and reliability culture within the workplace.
  • Project management experience of bespoke vessel modifications and upgrades.

Desirable

  • Experience in budget management and KPI reporting.
  • Familiarisation with the management of ISM compliance.
  • Familiarisation with the IMO High Speed Craft Code.
