Who we are:

The Port of London Authority is the statutory harbour authority for the tidal Thames and responsible for 95 miles of the River Thames from the Estuary to Teddington Lock in West London. We work to keep river users safe, protect and enhance the environment and promote the use of the river for trade and travel.

The Corporate Affairs department at the PLA coordinates our Thames Vision 2050 strategy, which sets out how we will remain the UK’s leading port, central to the economy, with Net Zero emissions by 2040. This role has a particular focus on creating and delivering our digital and social communications strategy, putting the river Thames at the heart of the story.

The wider Corporate Affairs department manages external and internal communications, digital channels, events, public relations and stakeholder engagement. We maintain relationships with various stakeholders, including government bodies, industry partners, local communities and the public.

The role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Web and Social Manager to join our team!

The successful candidate will be responsible for the development and delivery of a comprehensive digital and social communications strategy, in support of the wider PLA business plan. You will be responsible for the PLA websites, including editorial tone and approach, overseeing regular updates, and the ongoing development of the websites in collaboration with colleagues. You will design and execute our use of social channels and the PLA’s wider digital presence to increase reach and engagement with key audiences.

You will engage actively with internal and external stakeholders to create compelling content which puts with river Thames at the heart of our story. You will also be a visible champion for digital media and support colleagues to build their own profile and reach.

The successful candidate will also be part of an out-of-hours on-call rota for monitoring media enquiries.

What we are looking for:

You will be educated to degree level and/or at least five years’ equivalent professional experience.

  • Website design/development and day-to-day management of dynamic, content rich websites
  • Coordination of communications across a corporate website and associated social media channels
  • Data-led approach to developing and monitoring digital content plans
  • Expert user of content management systems (CMS) and working with and supporting CMS users
  • Ability to build strong and effective working relationships internally and externally
  • Copy writing and editing for the web, tailoring content for target audiences
  • Analytical tools for websites and social media platforms
  • Staying up to date with social media and digital best practice
  • Design software such as Adobe products: Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign.
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Line management experience
